good stuff, bad stuff

Good:

Went to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy last night and Gary Oldman damn well nailed me to my seat. What an amazing performance. Also Bendedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy, both being utterly brilliant. As was the rest of the cast. Just altogether fantastic. Could have done with a bit more of Cirían Hinds, though.

Then saw Moneyball today. I don't know anything about baseball, safe from what I learned from various baseball movies and they veer off the established pattern for movies about scrappy underdog sports teams where right when you hope for the championship happy end, they break your heart and then they sort of knit it back together again. And again great cast and performances.

Also a few interesting trailers, Haywire looks like it might be fun and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel will have to be watched just for the cast. Maggi Smith, Judi Dench, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson and Dev Patel, what more could I want. Plus, I saw the trailer for the new Bourne movie with Jeremy Renner online and it actually looks really promising.


Bad:

Dad told me today that his cancer has metastasized and he has to start chemotherapy next week and right now I'm sort of numb. We have known that he has cancer for 5 years but after the initial surgery there was never any tumor until now. When it was only his PSA count going up or down, it never seem really real. Now the other shoe has dropped with a vengeance.

Thanks. I'm trying to stay optimistic about the chemo. All fingers crossed and so on.

Thank you. I'll be better in a day or two. But getting the news today was a bit like a punch in the gut. Hence the movie distraction therapy.
